When is Easter in Mallorca?
Easter Sunday falls on 5 April in 2026 and on 28 March in 2027. The date is movable: Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, which is why Holy Week moves between late March and late April.
All the other dates of the week are derived from the Easter date – Palm Sunday a week before, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday immediately before, and Pancaritats Sunday a week after.
Weather at Easter
At the end of March the average daytime maximum at Palma airport is around 17 to 18 degrees, in April around 20 degrees; at night it cools to 5 to 7 degrees (AEMET, 1981–2010 averages). The island is green, the almond blossom is over and it is pleasant for walking in the Tramuntana. Swimming is the exception: the sea is around 15 degrees at Easter. Easter is a time for culture, walking and city days, not for beach holidays.
- T-shirt weather possible during the day, pack a jacket for the evening
- In the rain, processions are shortened or cancelled
- Hire cars and accommodation are in demand over Easter – book early
Holy Week at a glance
The week follows a set sequence: Palm Sunday with palm fronds outside the churches, Maundy Thursday with the Processó de la Sang in Palma, Good Friday with the Devallament in Pollença and processions island-wide, and Easter Sunday with the Encontre, the meeting of the figures of Christ and Mary.
- Palm Sunday: blessing of the palm fronds, 29 March 2026, 21 March 2027
- Maundy Thursday (public holiday): Processó del Sant Crist de la Sang in Palma, 19:00, 2 April 2026, 25 March 2027
- Good Friday: Devallament in Pollença, 3 April 2026, 26 March 2027
- Easter Sunday: Encontre, in places including Palma and Sineu
- The Sunday after: Pancaritats, 4 April 2027 (postponed in Palma in 2026 because of the weather)
Three places, three kinds of Easter
Pollença for the silent Descent from the Cross, Palma for the big brotherhood processions, Sineu for the village version.
- Pollença: Devallament on Good Friday, the Descent from the Cross and a torchlight procession down the Calvari steps
- Palma: Processó del Sant Crist de la Sang on Maundy Thursday from 19:00: in 2025 with 33 brotherhoods, 45 pasos (processional floats) and around 4,000 members, route from the church of l'Anunciació to the cathedral
- Sineu: Encontre on Easter Sunday morning in the village square
What comes next: the Pancaritats
On the Sunday after Easter the solemn phase ends. For the Pancaritats, many Mallorcans head out to sanctuaries in the countryside and have a picnic there. In Palma the federation of neighbourhood associations invites everyone to the Diumenge de l'Àngel (Angel Sunday) with music, dancing and Easter pastries – traditionally at Castell de Bellver; in 2026 the festival was postponed to 10 May because of the weather and took place in Parc de sa Riera.
Tips for your visit
- Book accommodation in Palma or centrally in Inca: the highlights are spread over different evenings and places.
- For Pollença on Good Friday, arrive early – parking spaces in the town are full from the afternoon.
- Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays: supermarkets and many restaurants outside the tourist centres stay closed.
- Avoid using flash at processions – it is unwelcome and disturbs the participants.
Who is it worth it for?
A good fit for:
- Culture lovers
- Families with older children
- Walkers and photographers
Less suitable for:
- Beach holidaymakers
- Anyone expecting reliably warm weather
