Bags and baskets from Mallorca: palm weaving, hats and leather

Last checked: October 2026

The senalla, the woven palm-leaf basket, is the classic souvenir from the island. Not all of those sold at markets are made here. Here are the workshops that weave baskets, bags and hats in Mallorca themselves – and two that make leather bags by hand.

Quick answer

Where can you buy hand-woven baskets and bags in Mallorca?

At Antic Mallorca in Inca (bags made from island garballó), at Yolitas in Cala Ratjada (baskets, bags and hats), at Paumes i Brins in Palma and at Espai Kamàndalu in Artà. Audali in Inca makes handmade leather bags, and Mastrenat in Pollença braided leather. Several workshops offer weaving courses.

Palm weaving

Baskets, bags and hats made from llata

For llata, the leaves of the dwarf fan palm – garballó in Mallorcan – are dried, torn into strips and braided into long bands. The bands are then sewn together into baskets, bags, hats or mats. The craft is most at home in the north-east of the island.
