Package holidays to Mallorca
Flight, hotel and usually transfer from a single provider – in high season almost always the cheaper option.
Package deals include flight, hotel and often the transfer.
The short answer
What is included in a package holiday to Mallorca?
A package holiday includes at least the flight and accommodation, usually also the transfer from Palma Airport to the hotel and luggage. Legally, the tour operator is liable for the entire package – if a flight is cancelled or there are problems with the hotel, they must provide a replacement, which is not the case with separate bookings.

When the package is the better choice
-
High season with hotel
Tour operators buy allocations early. In the summer holidays the package is therefore often below the total of a separate flight and a direct hotel booking.
-
Families
Child discounts and family rooms are usually better catered for in a package than in separate bookings.
-
All-inclusive
Full board is sold almost exclusively through tour operators; direct bookings are rarely cheaper here.
-
Protection
If the flight is cancelled, the tour operator must organise an alternative. If you book flight and hotel separately, you bear the risk yourself.
What to look out for in the offer
-
Is the transfer really included?
With cheap packages the transfer is often not included. From Palma Airport it takes 20 to 75 minutes, depending on the resort.
-
Flight times
Very early outbound and very late return flights effectively cost you two days of your holiday. A night-flight surcharge in the price is rarely the worse deal.
-
Room category
‘Standard room, land side’ in large complexes often faces the road. Sea view is a separate surcharge, not a feature detail.
-
Resort before hotel
Choose the region first, then the hotel. A very good hotel in the wrong resort is still the wrong holiday.
What is included in a Mallorca package holiday?
There is no uniform standard package – every offer combines the services differently.
-
Flight
Return flights to Palma de Mallorca Airport are the core element – fare and luggage rules depend on the offer booked.
-
Hotel
The accommodation is a fixed element – room category, location and facilities differ considerably from offer to offer.
-
Transfer depending on the offer
The transfer between airport and hotel is often included, but not with every offer – this is stated in the description of services.
-
Meals depending on the rate
Whether breakfast, half board or all-inclusive is included depends on the rate chosen and is not automatic.
-
Other services where applicable
Some offers include additional services – exactly what is included can only be found in the description of services.
Is the transfer included in a package holiday to Mallorca?
Often yes, but not automatically with every offer.
Many package deals include the transfer from Palma Airport to the hotel and back. However, this cannot be taken for granted: especially with offers including a hire car or very cheap rates, the transfer may be missing. The only thing that counts is the description of services of the specific offer – it states bindingly whether and in what form a transfer is included.
When do package holidays to Mallorca get cheaper?
There is no permanently cheapest time to book – several factors interact.
-
Season
Experience shows that the high season in midsummer is the most expensive time to travel; spring and autumn often offer more leeway.
-
School holidays
Demand rises considerably during the school holidays – and prices usually rise with it, regardless of when you book.
-
Occupancy
Full planes and booked-up hotels push prices up; remaining capacity can become cheaper at short notice.
-
Departure airport
Availability and price differ depending on the departure airport – it can be worth looking at alternative departure airports.
-
Length of stay
Short and long stays are priced differently; the price per travel day varies with the length.
-
Demand
Prices follow current demand and can change considerably at short notice – blanket price promises are not trustworthy.
Early booking or last minute – which is better?
Both can work – the right strategy depends on how fixed your requirements are.
| Criterion | Early booking | Last minute |
|---|---|---|
| Choice of hotel | Full choice, including popular hotels | Only what is still available at short notice |
| Choice of room | Free choice of categories and locations | Remaining allocations, preferred location often taken |
| Flight times | Wide choice of departure days and times | Limited remaining seats, off-peak times more common |
| Flexibility | Dates must be fixed early | Spontaneous decision shortly before departure possible |
| Price opportunity | Predictable, with early-booking terms depending on the offer | Can turn out cheap, but is not guaranteed |
| Family holidays | More suitable: fixed holiday dates, high demand | Risky: little choice precisely in the holidays |
Is last minute still worthwhile for Mallorca?
It can be, but not automatically.
Last minute works above all if you are flexible about resort, hotel and flight time: then you can react to remaining capacity. If, on the other hand, you are set on a particular resort, a particular hotel or a particular flight time, you have much less last-minute leeway – the more specific the wish, the more likely early booking is the better strategy.
All-inclusive or half board?
The decision depends on how much time you spend in the hotel.
All-inclusive suits you if you spend most of the day in the complex and want meals and drinks fully covered. Half board suits you if you are out at the beach, on excursions or in restaurants at lunchtime and want to eat in the hotel in the evening. If you are out a lot, with all-inclusive you often pay for services you don’t use at all.
Package holiday or flight and hotel separately?
Both options have their place – the type of trip is what matters.
A package holiday bundles flight and hotel into one total price and saves you coordinating individual components. Booking separately gives you more freedom regarding accommodation, length of stay and route – for example for fincas, tours or unusual travel times. Which option is cheaper depends on the specific period and offer; a direct comparison of both is almost always worthwhile.
Which Mallorca resorts are suitable for a package holiday?
Almost any holiday resort is an option – what matters more is which resort suits your trip.
-
Families
Resorts with shallow sandy beaches and short distances, for example in the north and east of the island.
-
Couples
Quieter cove resorts and smaller harbours – away from the large tourist centres.
-
Beach
Resorts with direct beach access, where hotel and water are connected without detours.
-
Without a hire car
Resorts with good bus connections and infrastructure within walking distance – for example along the Bay of Palma.
-
Quiet holiday
Smaller resorts and coves away from the Ballermann area, often with a shorter season.
What to check before booking?
This checklist prevents the most common surprises after booking.
-
Transfer
Is the transfer in the description of services – or does it have to be organised separately?
-
Luggage
What free luggage allowance applies to the booked fare – hand luggage only or checked luggage included?
-
Meals
Breakfast, half board or all-inclusive? Read the description in the offer carefully.
-
Room category
Check room type, view and facilities – the category determines your everyday holiday life.
-
Cancellation
Read the offer’s cancellation conditions and deadlines before booking.
-
Departure times
Very early or late flights noticeably change the first and last day of your holiday.
-
Location of the hotel
Check the address on the map – elevation, surroundings and the route into town all count.
-
Distance to the beach
‘Close to the beach’ is not a protected term: check the actual distance and route (steps, gradient).
Read the description of services
It is not the name of the offer that determines what is included, but the description of services. Transfer, meals and luggage are handled differently depending on the offer – only there is it binding.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in a package holiday to Mallorca?
At least the flight and accommodation, usually also transfer and luggage. Meals range from breakfast to all-inclusive depending on the offer. The description of services of the respective offer is binding.
Is the transfer included?
Often yes, but not automatically with every offer. Especially with very cheap rates or offers with a hire car, the transfer may be missing.
When should you book a package holiday?
For fixed holiday dates and preferred hotels, rather early; if you are flexible about resort, hotel and flight time, you can also compare at short notice. There is no guaranteed cheapest time.
Early booking or last minute?
Early booking secures choice of hotel, room and flight times – especially in the holidays. Last minute can be worthwhile, but requires flexibility regarding resort, hotel and departure.
All-inclusive or half board?
All-inclusive for holidays spent mostly in the complex; half board if you are out at the beach or on excursions at lunchtime and eat in the hotel in the evening.
Is a package holiday cheaper than booking separately?
In high season with a hotel stay often yes, because tour operators buy allocations early. For holiday flats, fincas and tours, booking separately is usually better. Neither option is cheaper across the board.
What are the legal advantages of a package holiday?
The tour operator is liable for the entire package and must provide a replacement in the event of cancellations. There is also statutory insolvency protection.
