Quick answer
What should you do first in an emergency in Mallorca?
If there is danger to life, a serious accident or violence, call 112 first. Then describe your location as precisely as possible and, if you can, send someone to the road or the beach access to guide the emergency services in. For anything that is not acutely threatening, a doctor's surgery, Centro de Salud (public health centre) or pharmacy will usually get you help faster than A&E.

Medical
Medical emergency
In the case of unconsciousness, shortness of breath, suspected heart attack or stroke, heavy bleeding or serious falls, the rule is: call 112 and follow the control centre's instructions. The emergency control centre coordinates the ambulance, emergency doctor and – if needed – transport to the appropriate hospital.
For less urgent complaints there are two options: public primary care at the Centro de Salud or a private doctor's practice – in holiday resorts these often work in German. It is best to clarify which option suits your insurance before treatment.
- 112 – ambulance, fire brigade, police
- Have your passport or ID card and your EHIC or proof of insurance ready
- Ideally, keep a list of your medication and known allergies on your phone

Safety
Police, violence and theft
Dial 112 in acute danger or if a crime is in progress. For reports and non-urgent cases, three police forces can be contacted depending on jurisdiction:
- 091 – Policía Nacional (towns, crimes, documents)
- 062 – Guardia Civil (rural areas, coast, traffic)
- 092 – Policía Local (local police, traffic in town)
A police report ( Denuncia ) is usually required for insurance and replacement documents. How this works is explained on Police, theft & lost documents.

Documents
Lost passport or ID card
Two steps go together: reporting it to the police and contacting the German mission abroad, which decides on replacement documents for the return journey.
- Report it to the police – document the loss or theft

Money
Lost cards or money
Block your cards first, then report the loss. Cards are blocked via your bank or the card issuer; the number is in your banking app, in online banking and on the bank's website. Note this number down before you travel and keep it separate from your wallet.
- Have your cards blocked via your bank or card issuer
- File a police report – for insurance and as proof
- Check your account activity and report unauthorised debits to your bank

Prepare before you travel
Store digital copies of your passport, insurance card and rental agreement, and keep a second means of payment separately. In an emergency, this makes each of the steps above much quicker.
Water
Distress at sea and on the beach
At sea and on the beach, too, 112 is the right emergency number; the control centre brings in sea rescue. On beaches with lifeguards, speak to the lifeguard first. The flags are binding: green means swimming is allowed, yellow means caution, red means no swimming.
- Never swim out alone when the red flag is flying
- Give your location, ideally with the beach name and nearest access point
- If you are stung by a jellyfish or injured, involve the beach supervisors

Frequently asked questions
Which emergency number applies in Mallorca?
112 is the single European emergency number for ambulance, fire brigade and police. It is free of charge and also works without phone credit. Depending on the situation, the control centre can arrange multilingual support.
What should I say when I call the emergency number?
Where you are (town, street, beach name, kilometre marker or landmark), what has happened, how many people are affected and how you can be reached. Do not hang up until the control centre ends the call.
Do I have to pay myself in an emergency?
In the Spanish public health system, the EHIC applies under the rules in force there. Private practices and private clinics may bill you directly or – depending on the provider – your insurance. Details are on our page on the EHIC and travel health insurance.
What should you do if your passport and cards are stolen?
First have your cards blocked, then report the theft to the police. The police report (Denuncia) is usually needed for replacement documents and for insurance.
