How does the emergency pharmacy service work on Mallorca?
You can recognise pharmacies by the green cross. Outside regular hours, one Farmacia de Guardia provides the emergency service; responsibility rotates within the municipality, daily in larger towns. Which pharmacy is currently on duty is shown in the official search and usually on a notice on the door of closed pharmacies.

Hours vary considerably by town, season and business; smaller municipalities also have lunch breaks. So do not rely on a general rule, but on the notice on site or the emergency pharmacy search.
Prescriptions from Germany
For prescription medicines there is the EU prescription, which can be filled in Spanish pharmacies. An ordinary German statutory health insurance prescription is generally not sufficient for this. If you take medication regularly, it is best to get the EU prescription before you leave – together with enough supply for your whole trip.
Active ingredient instead of brand name
Brand names differ between countries. Note down the active ingredient and dosage of your medication – this typically allows the pharmacy team to find a suitable product faster than with the German brand name. A photo of the package leaflet also helps.
What the pharmacy can do
For minor complaints – sunburn, insect bites, upset stomach, mild pain – the pharmacy is often the quickest place to go and will refer you to a practice if necessary. For acute or threatening symptoms, the rule still applies: call 112.
