Mallorca flight and hotel – book together or combine yourself?

Flight and hotel can be booked as a ready-made package, as a dynamic combination or completely separately. Which way suits you depends on the type of trip, flexibility and the scope of services you want – and on what the specific offer actually includes.

Package deals include flight, hotel and often the transfer.

The short answer

What does ‘flight + hotel’ mean for Mallorca in practice?

‘Flight + hotel’ describes the combination of both services in one booking – sometimes as a classic package holiday, sometimes as a dynamically assembled package. Not every flight-and-hotel offer works the same way: scope of services, transfer and conditions must always be checked individually.

What does ‘flight + hotel’ mean?

Not every flight-and-hotel offer works the same way.

The term covers different models: a tour operator’s classic package holiday, a dynamically combined booking of flight and hotel, or two services booked independently. What this means for transfer, meals, cancellation and protection differs in each case. So the rule is: always check the scope of services in the specific offer rather than deducing it from the name.

Is the transfer included with flight + hotel?

Not automatically.

With some offers the transfer between Palma Airport and the hotel is included, with others it has to be organised separately. If you book without a transfer, you can choose between shuttle, taxi, bus or hire car – which suits you depends on the resort. Only the description of services of the offer is binding.

Is flight and hotel together cheaper than separately?

Not necessarily.

Whether the combination is cheaper than booking separately cannot be answered across the board. The price depends on the travel date, the flight (departure airport, times, fare), the hotel, the luggage rules, the transfer and the flexibility you want. For the same date the combination may be cheaper – or booking separately. The honest way is therefore a direct comparison of both options rather than a blanket claim.

When is it worth booking flight and hotel separately?

As soon as the trip becomes more individual, booking separately wins.

  • Specific flight times

If you need a particular departure or return time, you choose the flight freely instead of taking the package connection.

  • Boutique hotel or finca

Small hotels, agroturismos and holiday flats are often not included in packages at all – here only booking separately gets you there.

  • Short individual trip

A long weekend of unusual length can be combined freely instead of sticking to package trip lengths.

  • Flexible length of stay

Nine instead of seven nights, open return flight – separate bookings allow unusual trip lengths.

  • Combining several places

If you are planning a tour of the island with several places to stay, you book hotel by hotel – a package does not cater for that.

When is a package more convenient?

When everything should come from a single provider.

  • Less booking effort

Flight and hotel are booked in one step instead of coordinating two bookings in terms of timing and content.

  • Services bundled

Flight, hotel and, depending on the offer, transfer and meals come from one booking with one point of contact.

  • Simple overall comparison

One total price per offer makes comparing several travel dates and hotels clearer.

Which Mallorca resorts work particularly well without a hire car?

If you book flight + hotel, you don’t need a car – as long as the resort plays along.

  • Palma

Direct bus from the airport, walkable old town – the island’s capital works completely without a car.

  • Playa de Palma

A few minutes from the airport, flat promenade and bus route towards Palma and Arenal.

  • Peguera

Compact resort in the south-west with a promenade, beaches and bus connections towards Palma and Andratx.

  • Port de Sóller

Reachable by historic train via Sóller; in the resort itself the tram connects the harbour and the beach.

  • Alcúdia / Port d'Alcúdia

Long, shallow beach, promenade and bus connections along the north coast.

  • Cala Millor

Compact seaside resort in the east with a promenade and bus connections to Porto Cristo and Manacor.

What to look out for regarding cancellation and flexibility?

Separate rules may apply to combined bookings.

  • Fare conditions

The conditions of the overall package – or the separate conditions of flight and hotel – should be read before booking.

  • Free cancellation

Whether and until when you can cancel free of charge is stated in the rate – not determined by the type of booking.

  • Rebooking

Some fares allow rebooking for a fee, others not at all – check this especially with flight fares.

  • Flight fare

Cheap flight fares are often non-refundable; rebooking rules differ depending on the fare class.

  • Hotel conditions

Hotels have their own cancellation deadlines, which may differ from the flight rules.

  • Deadlines

Note all deadlines: cancellation, rebooking and payment deadlines may run differently depending on the service.

We do not rate or rank providers. What matters is reading the description of services, fare conditions and deadlines of the respective offer – this applies equally to packages and separate bookings.
