Wineries in Mallorca: tastings, getting there, booking
Manto Negro and Prensal Blanc – island grape varieties that are hardly ever exported.
Many bodegas only offer tours and tastings by advance booking.
Quick answer
Wineries in Mallorca: tastings, getting there, booking
The main wine-growing areas are around Binissalem and Felanitx. Tours with tastings are almost everywhere only possible by advance booking and last one to two hours. Typical island grape varieties are Manto Negro and Prensal Blanc.
Mallorca’s wine production is small but distinctive: the red Manto Negro wines and the white Prensal Blanc wines are rarely sold outside the island.
Many estates combine the tasting with a set menu. If you plan that, you need a driver who does not drink – the checks on country roads are real.

Practical tips
- Book your slot at least a few days in advance, earlier in summer.
- Schedule the tasting for late morning – in the afternoon the halls are very warm.
- Buy wine directly on site; the small estates are barely represented in supermarkets.

Wineries in Mallorca: bodega visits, wine tastings & D.O. wines
Mallorca has two protected wine regions, the D.O. Binissalem and the D.O. Pla i Llevant, as well as numerous bodegas outside these zones that produce under the IGP Vi de la Terra Mallorca. Many of them offer tours with wine tastings, which usually have to be booked in advance. For the flight home, bottles you buy belong well padded in your checked suitcase.
Frequently asked questions: Wineries
Do you have to book wine tastings at the wineries in advance?
Yes. Almost all bodegas require an online or telephone reservation for tours with tastings.
Can you take wine you have bought on the plane?
Bottles must go well padded in your checked suitcase. For hand luggage, only purchases from the duty-free area after security are possible.
What is the difference between D.O. wine and IGP Vi de la Terra Mallorca?
D.O. wines come from the protected zones of Binissalem or Pla i Llevant, which have stricter rules. The IGP Vi de la Terra Mallorca applies to bodegas outside these two zones, with somewhat more flexible rules.
