Museums in Pollença: art between monastery and Tramuntana
For over 34 years Pollença has hosted an international sculpture competition – the results end up in a museum housed in a former Dominican monastery.
The short answer
Museums in Pollença: art between monastery and Tramuntana
Pollença has two museums worth seeing, both with free admission: the Museu de Pollença in the former Dominican monastery, with works including some from the local sculpture competition, and the Museu Dionís Bennàssar in the former home of the painter of the same name.
Museu de Pollença
The Museu Municipal is housed in the town’s former Dominican monastery and admission is free. Part of the collection comes from Pollença’s international sculpture competition, which has been held for over 34 years.
Museu/Fundació Dionís Bennàssar
In the home and former studio of the painter Dionís Bennàssar, the Fundació shows his work – also with free admission.
Why Pollença has always attracted artists
The combination of the Tramuntana mountain backdrop, a historic old town and a long monastic tradition has made Pollença a popular place for painters and sculptors over the decades.
