Artists’ village of Deià: where art and literature are at home
Ever since Robert Graves settled in Deià in the 1920s, the mountain village above the steep coast has remained a magnet for writers, painters and ceramicists.
In brief
Artists’ village of Deià: where art and literature are at home
For almost 100 years, Deià has been a retreat for artists and writers, and it is still an active little art village today, with galleries, a hotel gallery, an archaeological museum and Robert Graves’ house. Here you can both look at art and buy it directly.
Deiarte: gallery and bar with rotating exhibitions
Deiarte combines a gallery and a bar and shows changing exhibitions of contemporary and local art in the middle of the village.
Sa Tafona Gallery at the Hotel Belmond La Residencia
At the Hotel Belmond La Residencia, the in-house Sa Tafona Gallery shows exhibitions that change monthly – an unusual place for serious art in the middle of a working hotel.
Museu Arqueològic i Centre d'Investigació de Deià
Founded in 1962 in an old mill, the archaeological museum shows finds from the area around Deià and places the village in the island’s history before the artists.
Robert Graves’ house, Ca N'Alluny
The home of the poet Robert Graves is the best-known single art and literature site in Deià and has its own detailed page.
Son Marroig: the Archduke’s manor house
A little outside the village lies Son Marroig, the former manor house of Archduke Ludwig Salvator, with a view of the steep coast at Sa Foradada.
