Golf without a handicap in Mallorca: where beginners can play and learn

Most of the island’s courses require proof of handicap. Without a handicap, you still have an official pitch-&-putt course, public driving ranges and the clubs’ golf schools – some of which teach in German.

Can you play golf in Mallorca without a handicap?
Not usually on the 18-hole courses: Santa Ponsa, Bendinat, Capdepera and other clubs explicitly require an official handicap. Without a handicap you can play at Palma Pitch & Putt in Son Vida – nine short par-3 holes. If you want to learn golf, book lessons with one of the golf schools; Son Antem offers a course for the golf proficiency certificate (Platzreife, German permit to play).

Playing without a handicap
Palma Pitch & Putt: getting started in Son Vida
Nine short par-3 holes totalling 638 m – one tee per hole, no handicap required.
The course belongs to Arabella Golf Mallorca and is in Son Vida next to the three large Arabella courses. Arabella runs a golf school here specifically for beginners. As on all Arabella courses, you need a daily licence, here for €2 per day.

Platzreife and the DGV
None of the providers states whether a Platzreife obtained in Mallorca is recognised by your home club or the German Golf Association (DGV). Check this with the golf school and your club at home before booking.

At Palma Pitch & Putt in Son Vida – the operator does not state a minimum handicap. On the regular courses you usually need proof of handicap.

Yes, the Son Antem Golf Academy offers a 10-hour Platzreife course for 1–3 people. Check in advance with the academy and your home club whether it is recognised in Germany.
