Port de Sóller
Port de Sóller is Sóller's harbour town, set in an almost circular, sheltered bay on Mallorca's north-west coast. It is the only place in the Tramuntana that combines a swimming beach, a promenade and a mountain backdrop with good connections without a car.
Couples Hiking Nature Beach holidays Without a hire car
The sheltered bay is one of the few true natural harbours on the west coast.
The bay is almost completely enclosed by two headlands, so the water is calm – unusual for the otherwise rugged west coast. Around the promenade you will find restaurants, boat landings and small hotels; the historic tram runs right through the middle on its way to Sóller. For hikers the town is a convenient base, because in the evening you end up by the sea rather than on a mountain pass.

What makes Port de Sóller special
Round harbour bay
The sheltered natural harbour is one of the few on the west coast. The water stays calm even when it is windy, which makes swimming and stand-up paddling easier than on open coasts.
Cap Gros lighthouse
A climb of around 40 minutes above the bay ends at the lighthouse – the classic spot for sunset over the Tramuntana coast.
Boats to Sa Calobra
From May to October, excursion boats run to the Torrent de Pareis gorge – the alternative to the notorious hairpin road.
Tram down the valley
The open-sided tram links the harbour and the town every 20 to 30 minutes and genuinely replaces the car here.
Torre Picada
Above the harbour bay stands the historic Torre Picada watchtower, which you can reach on foot from Port de Sóller. According to Mallorca Magazin it has been open to visitors since the end of 2024 – check current opening times before you visit.
