Culture & town Couples Hiking Nature Peace and quiet
Valldemossa is a day-trip destination – it is much quieter in the morning.
Valldemossa is a day-trip destination – and that is exactly what sets the rhythm: between 11 am and 4 pm it is busy, while in the morning and evening the village belongs to its residents again. If you stay overnight, you get a quiet mountain setting, short distances to hiking routes and the charterhouse with hardly any queue. There is no beach; the nearest place to swim is the small cove of Port de Valldemossa down on the cliff coast.

What makes Valldemossa special
Charterhouse (Real Cartuja)
The former Carthusian monastery houses the cells with Chopin's Pleyel piano, an 18th-century pharmacy and monastery gardens with views over the valley.
Lanes and sandstone houses
The streets around Carrer de la Rectoria are built almost entirely from local sandstone and decorated with flowerpots – in the early morning you can photograph them without the crowds.
Hike to Port de Valldemossa
A steep path leads down in about 90 minutes to the small cove with fishermen's houses. Avoid doing the uphill return in the midday heat.
Coca de patata
The local potato pastry is traditionally served with hot almond milk and is freshly baked in several bakeries in the village.
