Port de Pollença
Last checked: October 2026
Port de Pollença is a quiet resort in northern Mallorca on a wide, curving, shallow bay. It is considered a classic for families, cyclists and hikers and is the starting point for the Formentor peninsula.
Families Active holidays Peace and quiet Beach holidays Without a hire car
The shallow bay is surprisingly sheltered, even when it is windy.
At its heart, the town consists of a long seafront promenade lined with pine trees, the historic Pine Walk villa quarter and a harbour with a sailing school. Because the bay is sheltered to the north, the water stays shallow and calm over long stretches. In spring, professional cyclists set the scene, in summer it is families – there is hardly any nightlife in the strict sense.

What makes Port de Pollença special
Pine Walk
The pine-lined seafront path with fishermen's houses and villas from the 1920s is the town's best-known walk.
Base for Formentor
In summer, boats and buses run to Playa de Formentor; the road out to the cape is closed to private cars at times during the high season.
Cycling centre
Between February and May the town is a training base for many teams; there are correspondingly many rental shops, workshops and cycle-friendly hotels.
Shallow swimming bay
The water stays hip-deep for many metres – the main reason families with toddlers end up here.

Frequently asked questions about Port de Pollença
Is Port de Pollença suitable for families?
Yes. The bay shelves very gently, the promenade is car-free, and restaurants, supermarkets and playgrounds are within walking distance. Waves are rarely an issue.
Can you manage in Port de Pollença without a hire car?
Largely, yes. Buses connect the town with Pollença, Alcúdia and Palma, and in summer also with Formentor. A car only makes sense for a day here and there for mountain tours and secluded coves.
How far away is Formentor?
Playa de Formentor is around 20 minutes' drive away, Cap Formentor about 40 minutes. Access restrictions apply in the high season; the bus or boat is then the more reliable option. The Alcúdia–Formentor bus line ran seasonally in 2026 from 15 May to 15 October.
How long is the transfer from Palma?
From the airport it is around 58 kilometres and, depending on traffic, about 60 minutes.
