Hotels right on the beach in Mallorca
“Seafront” is not a protected term – what matters is the climb, the road and the type of beach.
In Mallorca, “front row” often means above the cove, not at beach level.
The short answer
Where in Mallorca are hotels really right on the beach?
A true beachfront location without a slope or a through road is found above all at Playa de Muro, in Port d'Alcúdia, at Playa de Palma, in Cala Millor, Sa Coma and Port de Pollença. In cove resorts such as Cala d'Or, Cala Ratjada or Camp de Mar, on the other hand, many hotels sit 30 to 60 metres above the water.
What makes a true beachfront location
- Best places
- Playa de Muro, Port d'Alcúdia, Cala Millor, Sa Coma, Playa de Palma
- Critical point
- Height difference and steps, not distance as the crow flies
- Second point
- Is there a road or promenade between the hotel and the sand?
- Type of beach
- Long sandy beach instead of a rocky cove with a bathing platform
- Noise
- Beach bars and promenades can be heard until midnight
- Price premium
- The front row costs noticeably more than 300 m inland
How to check the location before booking
Three minutes with a map saves you two climbs a day on holiday.
-
Put the address on a map
Look up the hotel address on a map with terrain view. If there are hairpin bends or steps between the hotel and the water, it is not a beachfront location.
-
Road between hotel and beach
At Playa de Palma and in Port d'Alcúdia, a busy road runs in front of some of the hotels. For families with young children, this is a more important point than the distance.
-
Sandy beach or rocky coast
In Cala Ratjada or Porto Cristo, “by the sea” often means a rocky bathing spot with a ladder. For children, that is something different from shallow sand.
-
Orientation and a quiet night
Rooms facing the promenade are noisier but shadier in the afternoon. If you go to bed early, you are better off booking the garden side with a side sea view.
Where beach hotels in Mallorca are located
-
Playa de Muro and Port d'Alcúdia
The longest shallow sandy beach on the island, with a dense row of hotels, level paths and a promenade – the most reliable address for a true beachfront location.
-
Playa de Palma
Close to the airport, lively all year round, many large hotels right on the promenade. Between Balneario 1 and 5 it is much quieter than in the middle.
-
Cala Millor and Sa Coma
In the east, with a wide beach promenade without through traffic and quieter evenings than in the north.
-
Port de Pollença
Shallow water, pine trees along the shore and a promenade that works without a car – the quieter classic in the north.
A sea view is not a beachfront location
A room with a sea view can be 40 metres above the cove. If a short walk to the water matters more to you than the view, filter by distance to the beach and check the elevation on the map.

Frequently asked questions
Which place in Mallorca has the most hotels right on the beach?
The Bay of Alcúdia with Playa de Muro and Port d'Alcúdia. There, the row of hotels stretches for kilometres on the level behind the shallow sandy beach.
What does “seafront” (primera línea) mean?
The term is not protected. It is used both for hotels right on the sand and for hotels above a steep cliff – always check the elevation.
Are beach hotels noisier?
Usually, yes. Promenades and beach bars can be heard until midnight. Rooms on the garden or pool side are the compromise.
Is the extra cost for a beachfront location worth it?
With young children and without a hire car almost always, because midday breaks at the hotel remain possible. If you are planning excursions anyway, a location 300 metres inland saves you a noticeable amount.
