Five stars on the coast

Sea access, a large spa area, several restaurants, room service and often year-round opening. In return, you share the pool and beach with considerably more guests.
Finca hotel in the island's interior

Sandstone walls, old oil mills, olive groves and usually fewer than 30 rooms. The peace here is real, but the beach, restaurants and supermarket are ten to thirty minutes away by car.
Agroturismo

A legally regulated category: the house must be part of a working farm. The standard ranges from simple to decidedly luxurious.

What to look out for before booking

Getting to the finca

Many fincas are at the end of unpaved tracks (camí). With a lowered hire car, the last stretch becomes unpleasant.
Dinner

Not every finca has its own restaurant. Without a restaurant, every evening means a car journey – and with it the question of who drives.
Sea view versus sea access

Both are often advertised in the same way. A sea view can mean that there is a steep cliff between the hotel and the water.
